Nurses UK Charity Coffee Morning
On Friday the 27th of September 2019 Nurses UK put on a charity bake sale in the Hastings HQ to raise money for Macmillan cancer support which was a great success!
Macmillan Cancer Support offers a variety of important support for people affected by cancer and their families, this includes counselling and specialist nursing care for patients. Many people have been warmed by the amount of support Macmillan provides and have known someone requiring their help at some point in there lifetime.
The Macmillan website provides a range of information on the charity and offers support for cancer diagnosis. A range of amazing stories about how your donations help are displayed including Kimberley’s story, which reads;
“At 22 weeks pregnant, Kimberley got the devastating news that she had throat cancer. ‘It came as a complete shock. I felt completely well and my only symptom was a painless lump in my neck as though one of my glands was up’. It was a really traumatic time but Kimberley’s Macmillan nurse, Ian, was there every step of the way. To say thank you to Macmillan, Kimberley hosted her very own Coffee Morning.”

Ways in which your money could help:
‘£52 could help run our Online Community forum for over an hour. Typically, that would give nearly 750 people affected by cancer both emotional and practical support.
£250 could pay for five people living with cancer to attend a health and wellbeing event, providing them with the skills to improve the management of these areas in their lives.
£335 could pay for a Macmillan grant that helps a family affected by cancer take a holiday and enjoy precious time together.
£546 could pay for a Macmillan Social Care Worker for a week, helping patients, family members and carers manage the social and practical problems of living with cancer.
£1023 could pay for a Macmillan nurse for a week, helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support.’
Our team managed to raise over £300 in the 2 hours the event was on, it was lovely having the Hastings community and our lovely nurses come together to raise money for the amazing charity. Each member of the team baked something especially for the morning. Donations were requested in return for any treats provided! And for those who couldn’t attend an online donation page was set up to maximise the funds for this wonderful charity.
Former MP Amber Rudd heard about the event and made an appearance to support the cause, making a donation and talking to the attendees.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and donated. Our event may be over, but the ongoing need for funds is still apparent at Macmillan Cancer Support.
